Here’s Pentel’s handy step by step guide to making your hand puppet:
Place your hand puppet on a flat surface, with a piece of card inside, so it’s easier to draw your design and the material is kept steady.
Once you have drawn your design on the fibre in pencil, use the funky pastel dye colours available to colour in your drawing.
When you’re happy with your hand puppet, place a tea towel between
the puppet and an iron, and iron over your design to fix the colours.
If you’re not happy with your design or want to try again, just wash off your design, wait for it to dry and start again. Only once the puppet has been ironed are the colours fixed, so they don’t rub off onto hands or clothing.

This month, we’re giving another lucky reader a chance to get their hands on £100 worth of Pentel goodies, ranging from art products to everyday writing instruments. All you have to do is create your own original design on paper for a hand puppet and send it to us, along with your entry form. Remember, you need to send a design along with your entry form. Submit your puppet design by either taking a photo of your work and sending it to us as a JPG via email, or you can draw your design on paper and post it to us. You don’t have to purchase a hand puppet pack to be eligible for the prize draw, just produce your own original design for a hand puppet and submit your design to Pentel at the address below with your entry form.
